What we do
If you are an Illinois resident, age 65 or older or soon to be turning 65, or simply want to plan ahead for yourself or a loved one, we can help you accomplish the following:
o Manage medical risks
o Keep your own doctor
o Choose your own hospital and clinics when you are sick or hurt
o Control costs
o Make medical expenses more predictable
o Anticipate possible medical needs
o Choose an insurance plan that helps you maintain your lifestyle
The basics:
What is Medicare?
Medicare is the federally run medical insurance program for individuals over age 65. Medicare proper consists of four parts – Part A, which you get automatically when you apply for benefits, covers basic hospitalization charges, Part B covers physician charges, lab tests and medical equipment, Part C, Medicare Advantage, allows for a number of ways to access Medicare benefits, and Part D covers prescription drugs. Part B through D are available by paying an extra monthly premium.
How does Medicare Advantage Work?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) allows you to enroll in your choice of managed care plans. This helps streamline medical services and control costs, both for Medicare and for you. You can choose from preferred provider organizations that select the best care providers in your area, or choose Medicare Advantage plans that provides more focused care for a particular medical condition. There is a premium to enroll in Medicare Advantage, but the increased level of service you can get through Medicare Advantage typically more than makes up for the premium when you have a claim.
What is a Medicare Supplement plan?
Standard Medicare plans provide very limited coverage. Medicare supplement coverage is designed to fill the gaps in Medicare, and provide you with more complete Medical coverage and more choices in medical care. In Tennessee, Medicare Part B doesn’t cover everything, and basic Part A and Part B Medicare can leave you with a number of gaps that could be financially catastrophic in the event of a major health emergency.
What are the gaps?
Medicare supplement coverage covers the $248 dollars per day Medicare leaves uncovered for days 61 through 90 of any hospitalization. Without Medicare supplement coverage in place, you will have to pay those charges out of pocket. All Medicare supplement policies also provide up to 365 days of hospital coverage after your standard Medicare part A benefits – the benefits you receive automatically when you apply for Social Security benefits – are exhausted.
If you enrolled in Medicare Part B, remember that you have a 20 percent copayment due – out of your own pocket – for any outpatient physicians’ services, x-rays, lab tests, and medical equipment charges. Medicare supplement plans pick up that 20 percent copayment for you, once you have met your deductible for the year. Remember that in order to purchase a Medicare supplement policy, you must be enrolled in Part B.
