Supplemental Health Insurance

Supplemental health insurance can mean the difference in individuals living their lives with less worry and concern of how future expenses might not be covered by original Medicare.

Medigap is known as the supplemental health insurance for Medicare. Medigap will help cover the ‘gaps’ left open by Medicare, such as co-payments, hospitalization, deductibles, and other medical related expenses. There is an additional Medicare Supplement policy called Medicare Select, which is a type of Medigap policy, but it only allows you to go to certain hospitals for your needs, thus saving you money on premium. This type of plan is not offered everywhere. If you want to have feedom to go to any hospital you would not want a med-select plan.

There are 11 standardized Medigap policies (Plan A, B, C, D, F, F+, G, K, L, M, N), that individuals can chose from that offer basic as well as detailed additional benefits per plan. Plan A offers basic coverage, but if you need extra benefits you would want to examine the other Ilinois Medicare Supplement Plans. All plans are identical with each insurance company. For example, Plan F from Company 1 has the same benefits as Plan F from Company 2. However, each companies premium varies because the individual underwriting requirements. Also, policies must be purchased separately if both you and your spouse are in need of supplemental insurance.
