Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance

If you are turning 65 or are becoming Illinois Medicare eligible, you are probably looking for Medicare supplemental health insurance that will benefit your needs and fit your budget. Medicare consists of four parts: Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D. Each part covers separate areas of Medicare. There are 11 standardized Medigap plans (Plan A, B, C, D, F, F+, G, K, L, M, N), that individuals can chose from that offer basic as well as detailed additional benefits per plan. Costs will vary with each Medigap plan because the more benefits in the plan, the higher the cost. Remember, if you need Medigap insurance for you and your spouse, you must purchase each Medigap plan separately.

The difference between Medicare Part A and B is that Part A covers hospital insurance, aiding with related costs regarding inpatient hospital care, and some skilled nursing and hospice care. Part B covers medical insurance for doctor visits, outpatient hospital care, and other medical service not covered by Part A. Part C are Medicare Advantage Plans which also includes Medicare Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO), as well as Medicare Preferred Provider Organization Plans (PPO). Medicare supplemental health insurance helps to cover most expenses not covered by Medicare, such as co-insurance and deductibles.
