Medicare Medigap
To be eligible for benefits with Medigap supplemental insurance plan, you must also be enrolled in Illinois Medicare Part A and Part B to get a Medicare Supplement. The best time to purchase a Medigap plan is during your open enrollment, which begins 6 months before the first day of the month you are age 65 or begin Medicare Part B and last for 6 months after. The Medigap Plan will begin when your Medicare Part A & B starts.
Currently, there are 11 Medicare supplement insurance plans (Plan A, B, C, D, F, F+, G, K, L, M, N), known as Medigap plans, each one having different benefits. Plan A has very basic coverage. While, the Plan F offers the most benefits and therefore, is more expensive. These Medigap plans are to help cover the cost that Medicare does not. For example, the plans help with expenses such as, co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, as well as getting emergency healthcare outside of the U.S., which original Medicare doesn’t cover. If you and your spouse need supplemental Medicare insurance such as Medigap, policies must be purchased separately.
