BlueCross BlueShield of Kansas
In 1941, the Kansas Legislature passed an act that created a pre-paid healthcare plan, which later became known as Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS). Originally, only eight individuals were members of BCBSKS. Today about 625,000 customers are served by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas, making it the largest health insurance company in the state. Members of BCBSKS have access to about 98 percent of healthcare providers in Kansas.
