Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGA) originated from two separate health insurance companies. The Atlanta Blue Cross Plan was founded in 1937 and followed by the Columbus Plan in 1946. These two agencies came together in 1985 to form the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. BCBSGA is now one of the 48 independent Blue Cross Blue Shield corporations. More than 2.2 million residents of Georgia receive healthcare coverage from BCBSGA, making it the largest health insurance provider in the state. The company works with approximately 1,300 hospitals and other healthcare facilities in Georgia to provide an array of choices for its customers.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia also provides its members with Blue Choice PPO High-Deductible Health Plan, such as: BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 1000-Ded 100%, BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 1800-Ded 100%, BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 2600-Ded 100%, BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 1000-Ded 80%, BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 1800-Ded 80%, and BlueChoice PPO HDHP (HSA-qualified) 2600-Ded 80%. Short Term Medical Plans are designed to meet the needs of individuals who are temporarily without health insurance. Each short-term plan offered by BCBSGA can be purchased for up to six months in 30 day increments. This coverage has three deductible options. Flex Plans are traditional plans that offer a high-level of benefits for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia members. These plans include: FlexPlus Plan 2,500, FlexPlus Plan 5,000, and FlexPlus 10,000. The following programs are offered by BCBSGA for seniors: Blue MedicareRx, 65Plus Medicare Supplement, SmartValue, BlueValue Secure, and Senior Dental Plan.
